Football coach at N.C. State. Graduate of Penn State. Assistant football coach at alma mater, 1936–1948, and at Michigan State, 1949–1953. Head coach at State, 1954–1970. Revived dormant program, coaching State to three ACC titles. Named ACC Coach of the Year four times. Coached State to its first bowl victory, 1967 Liberty Bowl. Carter Stadium (now Carter-Finley Stadium) completed during his tenure. Record 77-88-8. President of American Football Coaches Association, 1970. Born 1908, Pennsylvania. Died 1997.
