  • Batted .300 or better five times, including a .368 average for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1954
  • Hit .333 for the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 1960 World Series, his only appearance in the fall classic
  • Ranks second behind Manny Mota with 145 major league–career pinch hits and first with 507 career pinch hit–at bats
  • After retirement served as a scout and batting instructor for the Atlanta Braves
  • Died 1991
