Gene Hooks  1999

Athletic director at Wake Forest, 1964–1992. All-American third baseman at Wake Forest, 1949 and 1950. Led school to second-place finish in 1949 NCAA Tournament. Played four years in minor leagues before returning to school for doctorate in education from George Peabody College. Baseball coach and physical education instructor at Wake Forest, 1956–1959. Full-time faculty, 1959–1964. As AD, oversaw expansion of Wake Forest facilities. Gene Hooks Stadium named in his honor. Member of numerous NCAA and ACC committees. Executive director NCAA Division 1-A Athletic Directors, 1992–1997. Native of Rocky Mount.
