Major league pitcher. First major leaguer to wear glasses, or spectacles, in the 20th century; hence the nickname. Pitched for Durham Bulls in 1913 and 1914. Pitched in major leagues for St. Louis Cardinals, Philadelphia Phillies, and Pittsburgh Pirates, 1915–1929. Led NL with 20 wins in 1926 for Pittsburgh. Led NL in losses in 1916 and 1919. Pitched in 1925 and 1927 World Series for Pittsburgh, going 0-2. Went 188-180 for major league career. Born 1894, Oxford. Died 1963.
