College basketball star at N.C. State, 1956–1959. At 5 ft. 9 in. and 155 lb., the smallest player ever recruited by Everett Case. Flashy ball handler and passing wizard. As guard, scored 944 career points in 74 games, an average of 12.7. First-team all-ACC, 1958 and 1959. First-team all-ACC Tournament, 1958 and 1959. ACC Player of the Year, 1959. Second-team AP all–American, third-team UPI all-America, 1959. McKelvin Award as ACC’s top athlete, 1959. Played for Wichita Vickers in National Industrial League and Sunbury in Eastern Professional League. Coached freshman basketball at State for three seasons before leaving to enter private business.
