Won 20 or more games six times, including 1929–1932 with Cleveland and 1935–1936 with Boston Red Sox. Led AL with 25 wins in 1935. Led AL in complete games three times and innings pitched three times. Fierce competitor. Pitched a no-hitter in 1931 for Cleveland, beating St. Louis 9-0. Batted .280, with 38 home runs and 208 RBI. Frequently used as pinch hitter. Hit more home runs than any pitcher in major league history, nine in 1931 alone. Hit more home runs than brother Rick, a full-time catcher. Managed in minors.
