Peggy Pate Chappell - (1993)

Top amateur swimmer in the 1940s. A 1944 graduate of Goldsboro High School. Specialized in the breaststroke. Won the Teague Award as outstanding female athlete in the Carolinas in 1943 and 1944. Attended Penn Hall College in Pennsylvania. Set a national college record in the 50-meter breaststroke.
