Born in Wilson, 1922. Successful college baseball coach in Wilmington for 27 seasons. Attended Wake Forest and Atlantic Christian (now Barton College). World War II service sandwiched between college years. Became head baseball coach at Wilmington College (now UNC-Wilmington) in 1951. Led team to five National Junior College Baseball Tournaments and national titles in 1961 and 1963. Coached basketball team to two national tournament appearances. Remained head baseball coach when Wilmington College became a university and moved to NAIA and NCAA play. National NAIA Baseball Coach of the Year, 1975.
