High school coaching legend at Hickory High School. Went 237-108-5 from 1953 to 1984. Teams won three western state titles, 10 district titles. Also coached baseball, golf, track, and girls’ basketball. National Coach of the Year for District 3 (Southeast U.S.) in 1971. Graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne. Born China Grove, 1921. Died 1991.
