* Alvin "General" Crowder - (1967)

Pitcher for Washington, St. Louis, and Detroit in AL, 1926–1936. Led AL in wins with 26 in 1932 and 24 in 1933, both with Washington. Went 21-5 with St. Louis in 1928, leading league with .808 winning percentage. Won 15 consecutive decisions in 1932. Went 167-115 for career. Pitched in 1933 World Series for Washington and 1934 and 1935 World Series for Detroit. Won one game in 1935 series. Pitched in baseball’s first all-star game in 1933. Stayed in baseball after playing career as owner and manager of Winston-Salem club in Piedmont League in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Born Winston-Salem.
