* Tom Davis - (1988)

Native of Wilson, one of three brothers to play football at Duke. Also played baseball. Started in backfield, 1941–1944. First-team all-SC in 1942, 1943, 1944. All-American in 1944. Rushed for 1,775 yards and passed for 838 yards in college career. Scored four touchdowns in 1942 game against N.C. State. Led Duke to a dramatic 29-26 comeback victory over University of Alabama in 1945 Sugar Bowl. He hit .407 as a Duke outfielder. After leaving Duke, served in the marines, played semipro football in Charlotte, and officiated high school and college football games. He died in 2007 in Wilson.
