On this day in history in the NCSHOF, George Barclay died in Asheville.

October 6, 1997 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, George Barclay died in Asheville.  He was the first UNC Tar Heel named to an all-American football team, as he starred at guard and linebacker at Carolina from 1932 to ’34.  He also served as head football coach at his alma mater from 1953 to ’58. He was inducted into the NCSHOF in 1976.
