Born in 1929, raised in Mount Airy. Led Mount Airy to the 1946 state football title. Attended Duke, where he was a standout back. Named all-American in 1950. Captain and MVP of 1950 Duke team. Compiled 3,710 yards career total offense. Second in nation in total offense in 1950, with 1,995 yards. Played three seasons for Washington Redskins before retiring to career in federal government.
