* Bob Matheson

Star linebacker in college and NFL. All-American at Duke, 1966. All-ACC, 1965 and 1966. Known for intelligence, quickness, and competitiveness. First-round pick by Cleveland in 1967 NFL draft. Played four seasons for Cleveland. Traded in 1971 to Miami, where he had his best seasons. Specialized in rushing the passer from his linebacker spot. Key figure in Miami’s undefeated 1972 season and victories in Super Bowls VII and VIII. Retired in 1980. Became Duke linebacker coach. Forced to give up coaching when he contracted Hodgkin’s disease in 1982. Born 1944, Boone.  Died in 1994.
