Professional golfer. First African-American to make an impact on PGA Tour. Learned to play as caddy. Joined Negro Pro Tour, 1946. Won National Negro Open six times. Won Long Beach Open, 1957. In 1960 he was the first African American to become PGA Approved Tournament Player. Won Hartford Open, 1967, and Los Angeles Open, 1969. Also won on PGA Seniors’ Tour. Born 1922, Charlotte. Died 2015.
