Major league baseball player. Pitched for Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit, and Oakland, 1959–1975. Best seasons with Minnesota, 1963–1972. Went 20-6 in 1969 and 24-12 in 1970. Led AL in wins, 1970. Winner AL Cy Young award, 1970. Brother Gaylord also won 20 games that year, making them the first brothers to each win 20 games in the same season. Ended career with 215-174 record. Pitched in 1965 World Series for Minnesota but did not have a decision. Lost a game in the 1969 AL LCS. Born 1936, Williamston. Attended Campbell College.
