January 2, 1961
On this day in history in the NCSHOF, head coach Bill Murray directed his Duke Blue Devils to a 7-6 victory over Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl Classic before a crowd of 70,500 in Dallas. Arkansas was coached by Frank Broyles and the Razorback star was Lance Alworth, who went on to a great professional football career. Murray, himself a star during his playing days at Duke, earned five ACC titles in 15 seasons. He was inducted into the NCHSOF in 1966.
