On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Dr. Monk McDonald died at the age of 76.

September 2, 1977 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Dr. Monk McDonald died at the age of 76. McDonald played football, basketball and baseball at the University of North Carolina and later was the head UNC basketball coach. He was the first Patterson Medal winner, the most prestigious student-athlete award at UNC. He was enshrined in the NCSHOF in 1976.
