November 16, 1965 - On this day in history, Walt Bellamy of the New York Knicks scored 20 points and hauled in 19 rebounds to lead the Knicks past the Detroit Pistons 120-95 at Madison Square Garden in New York. A New Bern native, Bellamy was a collegiate all-American at Indiana who played 13 years in the NBA. He won NBA Rookie of the Year in 1962, and went on to be a 4x All-Star. He was part of the gold medal winning Men's Basketball team in the 1960 olympics. Bellamy was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993. He joined the NCSHOF in 1984.
