December 19, 1981 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Jerry Tolley helped Elon to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) national football championship. Tolley was the head coach of the Fighting Christians, who defeated Pittsburg State (Kansas) 3-0 in the final. Tolley recorded a coaching mark of 99-11-2 as head coach at Elon. He joined the NCSHOF in 2011.
