January 4, 1989 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Gastonia native James Worthy poured in 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds and handed out three assists in his 35 minutes of play, leading his Los Angeles Lakers to a 133-120 NBA victory over the Portland Trail Blazers before a crowd of 17,505. A first-round NBA draft pick, Worthy played for the Lakers for 12 years and scored 16,320 points. He joined the NCSHOF in 1997.
