January 28, 2001 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Gerald Austin served as the referee for Super Bowl XXXV in Tampa, as the Baltimore Ravens rolled past the New York Giants 34-7. Austin enjoyed a 25-year officiating career at the NFL level after serving in the ACC. Austin has officiated three Super Bowls, two of which as a side judge, and XXXV as a referee. Since retiring as an official, Austin regularly contributed to ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcasts.
He was inducted into the NCSHOF in 2007.
