February 3, 2015 - On this day in history , Charlie Sifford passed away at the age of 92. Hailed as "The Jackie Robinson of Golf" by Lee Trevino, Sifford is remembered as the man who broke the color barrier in the PGA Tour. Tiger Woods credits Sifford with opening the door for himself and others to play in the PGA. Sifford would go on to win twice in the PGA Tour, once in 1967 and once in 1969.
Sifford was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2004, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
He was inducted into the NCSHOF in 1992.
