February 20, 2000 - On this day in history, Catawba County native Dale Jarrett won the Daytona 500 NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway. He was the pole sitter and led the most laps throughout the race in a convincing performance for the number 88 Robert Yates Racing Ford. It was his third Daytona 500 victory. 

Jarrett joined the NCSHOF in 1996.
