On this day in history, Jack Coombs died at the age of 74...

April 15, 1957 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Jack Coombs died at the age of 74 in Palestine, Texas.  A three-time World Series champion as a player, he twice led the American League in pitching victories before he had a great run as Duke University’s head baseball coach from 1929 to ’52. He was enshrined in the NCSHOF in 1987.
