June 7, 1937 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, second baseman Burgess Whitehead was a perfect three for three at the plate and drove in three runs as his New York Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 at the Polo Grounds in a game played in just an hour and 55 minutes. The Tarboro native also played in two MLB All-Star Games. He was enshrined in the NCSHOF in 1981.
