Shore proceeded to retire the next 26 batters in a row...

June 23, 1917 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Ernie Shore of the Boston Red Sox entered the game against the Washington Senators after the first batter had been walked by starting pitcher Babe Ruth.   Ruth was then ejected when he got in a physical confrontation with the umpire, the base runner was caught stealing and Shore proceeded to retire the next 26 batters in a row as the Red Sox won 4-0. He was inducted into the NCSHOF in 1979.
