Burgess Whitehead of the St. Louis Cardinals had three hits in seven trips to the plate in a doubleheader...

July 14, 1935 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, second baseman Burgess Whitehead of the St. Louis Cardinals had three hits in seven trips to the plate in a doubleheader, including a pair of triples, as the Cardinals took two from the Philadelphia Phillies by 5-1 and 10-1. A crowd of 23,000 saw it at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis.  A Tarboro native, Whitehead joined the NCSHOF in 1981.
