July 16, 1936 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Johnny Allen went the distance on the mound for the Cleveland Indians, tossing a five-hit shutout as the Tribe downed the Philadelphia A’s 7-0. Allen earned his ninth victory of the season, striking out five. The native of Lenoir had 142 victories in his 13 years as a major league pitcher. He joined the NCSHOF in 1977.
