August 2, 1961 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, knuckleball pitcher Hoyt Wilhelm got the victory for the Baltimore Orioles in relief in the nightcap of a doubleheader as the Orioles edged the Minnesota Twins 4-3 before a crowd of 14,379 in Baltimore. Wilhelm came on in the fifth inning and went the rest of the way, striking out eight and walking two while surrendering four hits in his five-inning stint.  Born in Huntersville, Wilhelm pitched in the major leagues until the remarkable age of 49 and joined the NCSHOF in 1968.
