Smoky Burgess of the Pittsburgh Pirates had three hits in four trips to the plate to help the Pirates...

August 6, 1960 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Smoky Burgess of the Pittsburgh Pirates had three hits in four trips to the plate to help the Pirates to an 8-7 extra-inning victory over the San Francisco Giants.  The Caroleen native spent 18 years in the major leagues and the Pirates went on to win the 1960 World Series. He joined the NCSHOF in 1978.
