Rocky Mount native Buck Leonard became the first North Carolinian to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

August 7, 1972 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Rocky Mount native Buck Leonard became the first North Carolinian to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. He enjoyed a tremendous career in the Negro Leagues with the Homestead Grays and was a 13-time all-star. He joined the NCSHOF in 1974.
