August 13, 1915 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, Jack Coombs went the distance on the mound for the Brooklyn Dodgers in a 6-1 victory over the New York Giants. He scattered seven hits en route to his 10th win of the year. Coombs won 158 games during his major league career and went on to serve as Duke’s head baseball coach for 24 seasons. He was inducted into the NCSHOF in 1987.
