August 20, 1937 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, catcher Rick Ferrell of the Washington Senators had two hits in four trips to the plate to help the Senators to a 3-1 victory over the Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston before a crowd of 3,500.  Born in Durham and spending time during his youth in Greensboro, Ferrell caught 1,884 games over 18 seasons and started the first All-Star game in 1933. He joined the NCSHOF in 1964.
