The last official NASCAR race was held on a dirt track, the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh.

September 30, 1970 - On this day in history in the NCSHOF, the last official NASCAR race was held on a dirt track, the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The Home State 200, held on the half-mile track, was won the King himself, Richard Petty, the first driver ever to reach one million dollars in career earnings.  He joined the NCSHOF in 1973.
